The ecomConnect

The ecomConnect Programme is an initiative of the International Trade Centre (ITC). As the joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation, ITC is the only multilateral agency fully dedicated to supporting the internationalisation of small businesses. Its joint mandate combines a focus on expanding trade opportunities with the aim of fostering sustainable development

The ecomConnect programme accompanies small businesses in developing and least developed countries on the journey to sell online through its tailored online and face-to-face learning programme, project-related technical assistance and field support, backed up by research and innovative solutions in conjunction with local and international partners such as eBay, DHL, Etsy, PayPal and Payoneer.

E-commerce has the potential to become a significant part of the economic activity in developing and least developed countries by offering the opportunity to access wider markets without the constraint of having to establish and maintain physical stores. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the importance of digital channels to small enterprises as a means of maintaining and developing customer relationships: facilitating the digital transformation of MSMEs has become a priority for governments.
